Designing with Big Sky

Focused on Your Project

With every project, our first goal is to thoroughly understand your design and the client's needs. Whether we're responding to an RFI or a less formal request, we actively engage with you to ensure a professional, timely response.

We're accustomed to collaborating with architects and structural engineers to find the best solution for an application, including meeting special requirements like loads on large overhangs, supporting extended spans, and optimizing R-value for a given panel thickness.

Big Sky is often called upon to review a design and pinpoint where SIPs will have the greatest benefit. We're comfortable doing that, and will suggest changes that might simplify the solution or enhance the overall result. We'll even tell you if we think SIPs are not the best approach for an application, because at the end of the day the success of your client's project is what matters most.

Experienced Drafting Team

Members of Big Sky's drafting team average 13-15 years of drafting experience, and many previously worked in construction. We understand both conventional and SIP-based construction methods, so we're adept at helping architects translate between the two.

Big Sky has collaborated with architects to solve structural and design problems over thousands of projects. We've continually refined approaches and techniques, and strive to ensure that every designer we work with benefits from that experience.

We're continually improving our process, too, to ensure that architects, builders and owners have the best possible experience working with us. A key part of that commitment is adopting new technology to better collaborate and communicate with partners and customers. Some examples:

  • Import an architect's design, whether it's in SOLIDWORKS, Revit, ArchiCAD or another major package, drastically reducing time to drawing completion.
  • Collaborate using cloud-based file sharing systems.
  • Track real-time information on the production status and location of every panel in our drawing.

A Complete, Accurate Proposal. Every Time.

With every proposal we develop, we aim to understand and reflect the whole story of our customer's needs.

That includes the complete square footage of panels, plus the splines, sealant, fasteners, tape, and house wrap needed to install the right way. It's all there in our proposal, laid out in black and white.

Getting the details right takes some extra effort. We think it's worth it, though. It prevents surprises, and that helps us earn our customers' trust.

AIA-Accredited Education For Your Team

To provide informed design and specification services, it's critical to have a solid understanding of the capability and usage of the building materials.

That's why Big Sky has developed a thorough, AIA-accredited course to teach architects the advantages and uses of SIPs and other EPS building products. We teach our course periodically at AIA meetings in the Western U.S. and Canada.

Big Sky also frequently conducts custom lunch-and-learn seminars for individual architectural firms. We encourage architects to invite local contractors, engineers and other interested market partners, to turn these seminars into informal social and networking events.

Get in touch with us if you're interested in attending or scheduling a local seminar.

Comprehensive Technical Documentation

Our library of technical and construction documentation has been designed to provide quick answers and cut-and-paste support for architects' specifications.

Technical Bulletins provide background on key topics about the capabilities and use of SIPs in various applications.

The Construction Manual is a comprehensive set of diagrams and instructions for the installation of SIPs in every configuration. We provide both PDF and AutoCAD formats on the Construction Manual page.

Our Literature library is a collection of brochures to support conversations with clients and partners about SIPs, applications and accessories.
