Assembling roofs and walls is a snap with R-Control SIPs.

The whole job is pre-cut, numbered and indexed to the shop drawing. You stage the panels, then place each SIP, seal it, nail it, and move on to the next.

You don't have to frame, sheath, insulate or install an air barrier, because every panel you install is a complete section of the wall or roof.

There are fewer materials to manage, too, and there's only one order to place.

Everything you need arrives in the same delivery. If you're ready to go, you don't have to cover one material while you wait for the others to arrive. You just unload and assemble.

No more need to hire and coordinate crews to frame, insulate the cavity, sheath, install continuous insulation, seal, and install an air barrier. It's all in the panel, and all delivered by one reliable supplier.

The labor savings can be substantial. An industry study found framing labor was reduced 55% using SIPs, and feedback from our contractor customers bears that out.

Easy Electrical Install

Electrical installation is fairly easy in SIPs. In fact, a time and motion study conducted by Franklin Associates concluded SIPs can reduce electrical installation labor by 11%.

R-Control SIPs come standard with pre-cut horizontal electrical chases at 14 and 42 inches horizontally off the floor. Vertical chases are spaced every four feet on center, and one foot from door openings.

Custom chases can also be planned in the design, and cut in the factory during fabrication.

We mark chase location on the face of the panel, making it easy to identify where to drill to push the feed for a new circuit. In slab-on-grade construction, conduit can be fixed in the slab and run into the panel, or wire can be looped from the top of the SIP.

Less Jobsite Waste

Cutting lumber to size, weeding out non-conforming materials, and discarding packaging can result in a small mountain of trash at a job site. NAHB estimates that 7,000 pounds of waste is generated in the construction of a typical 2,000-square-foot home.

With R-Control SIPs, every panel is fabricated to exact specifications, so related job site waste is minimal.

In addition to the obvious benefit of not paying for unused materials, reducing job site waste can save on hauler and tipping fees.

Lower Cost to Owner

At the outset, SIPs cost a little more than the combination of materials in a conventional wall or roof. SIPs require less onsite labor, though, so the installed cost compared with a stick frame building is a wash.

The savings are in the operating cost. SIPs have consistently proven to reduce owners' heating and cooling costs by up to 50%.

For a 30x50, two-story structure in Zone 6, as depicted in the table in this section the estimated savings are $848, or 46%, in the first year. The extra upfront investment in R-Control SIPs more than pays for itself.
