Solar Decathlon 2020 - A Weber State University Competition

A team of students from Weber State University’s construction
program was selected to compete in the 2020 U.S. DOE Solar Decathlon. This collegiate
competition challenges students to design and construct highly efficient and
innovative buildings powered by renewable energy. Weber State University is located in Ogden, Utah.

The House that WSU Built

This project included an all-electric net zero home built with Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) as the building envelope choice. The house was a design collaboration with WSU and City of Ogden working together to achieve the most efficient design possible. This home features incorporation of many energy efficient materials working as a system. Battery backup technology allows the home to maintain critical loads necessary for passive energy up to 72 hours in case of emergency power outages.
